The Farmer’s Almanac’s Guide to Self-CarE

All over TikTok and Instagram, many people are trying to find all different types of remedies and tricks to get in shape or grow their hair out. I’ve seen hot oil treatments, cardio workouts, scalp massages, cleansing diets, etc., but is any of that going to work if the sun and the moon are not in the right place? Since 1818, the Farmer’s Almanac has served as a guide for long-ranged weather conditions but it turns out that it can actually give insight into the best days for different activities like when to start a diet to gain or lose weight and when to cut your hair to increase or decrease growth.

It all started when I was in a yoga class at the gym and I saw a middle-aged woman with hair almost down to her butt and I could not stop staring in awe. After the class, I decided to ask her if she has any tips or tricks for hair growth. At this moment, I was thinking she would tell me about a certain hot oil scalp treatment or scalp scrubber that I have already seen on TikTok. To my surprise, she goes on to tell me something I had not yet heard of.

“For the last five years, I only cut my hair when the Farmer’s Almanac told me to,” she says.

At first, I didn’t believe it for a second but after doing some of my own research, I realized that her method might actually make sense.

It’s still unsure how the Farmer’s Almanac comes up with their predictions but it’s said that its forecasts are determined by combining solar science, weather patterns, and meteorology. According to its long-standing proprietary formula, it’s possible to plan ahead for many different events like self care routines and gardening methods. The book says when the moon is in the appropriate phase and place in the zodiac, it’s believed that activities will lead to better results. The predictions also take into consideration the relationship the moon has with the 12 ruling signs of the zodiac. Through astrology, we are able to prepare ourselves for how our mood will be based on the phase of the moon. Can it be the same for our physical features?

“For the last five years, I only cut my hair when the Farmer’s Almanac told me to,”

According to the book, there are only certain days of the month when these practices will turn out to be worthwhile. When the moon is between the new and full moon, it’s in its first and second quarter. During the time of the new moon, many know it to be a time to set new intentions and focus on areas of your life that are declining or seem to be on a plateau. This can be said for your external well being too. This is considered the best time to perform tasks that require strength, fertility, and growth. This can refer to cutting hair to increase growth and starting a diet to gain weight. By doing so, the law of attraction is set in motion and is focusing on growing different aspects of your life.

Best Days to Cut Hair to Increase Growth- April 30, May 1,4,5,and 6

Best Days to Start A Diet to Gain Weight- May 4, 5, and 6

When the moon is in a period between the full and new moon, it’s in between its third and fourth quarters. The full moon is known to be the time that gives people the opportunity to purge their energies that are no longer benefiting them. This involves activities like moving on and letting go of certain things or people. For the Farmer’s Almanac, this time is the best for harvesting, cleansing your body, slowing growth, etc. This refers to tasks like starting a diet to lose weight and cutting your hair to decrease growth. During this time, the law of attraction is focused on purifying one’s self of anything that might be setting them back from reaching maximum potential.

Best Days to Cut Hair to Decrease Growth- April 18, 19, 23, 24, 27 and 28

Best Days to Start Diet to Lose Weight- April 18, 19, 23, 24, 27 and 28

If you want a guide to plan for your upcoming adventures and how to make it the best time it can possibly be, the Farmer’s Almanac has got you covered on that too.

Best Days to Get Married- April 14, 15, 25, 26, 29, and 30, May 1st, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, and 13

Best Days to Travel for Pleasure- May 2, 3, 7, and 8

Best Days to Host A Party- April 14, 15, 23, and 24, May 2, 3, 7, 8, 12, and 13

The list goes on to cover the best days for all different practices like gardening, fishing,  and house upkeep. Some speculate whether the Farmer’s Almanac and their predictions are worth considering but followers of the book say the predictions are usually 80-85% true. From the looks of the woman I met at the gym, it seems like these dates have some type of credibility.

Even though this calendar has its benefits, you might see the most results if you are using a mixture of practices to achieve a goal. It’s just like practicing manifestation. You have to constantly put in the work into getting the results you want like applying a hair mask or exercising.

At this point, we are about two months away from the summer and we need every remedy, workout, and strategy we can get. Many people have already seen signs that this calendar works. This could be something to remember next time you are going to call the salon to make your next haircut appointment or going to the supermarket to shop for your next diet. The Farmer’s Almanac could be that one thing that finally makes you see results. Who knows, the change of a date could mean three extra inches within the next two months or ten pounds down within a week.
